Tottenham: £16.7m star 'moving forward' with Hotspur Way exit

Tottenham defender Joe Rodon is “moving forward” with his move to Rennes, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Following his lack of opportunities since his arrival two years ago, Rodon is on the verge of securing a season-long loan switch to the French outfit.

Much like the previous two seasons, Rodon’s frustrations have continued in pre-season. He missed the recent tour of South Korea through illness, with his only minutes coming against Rangers last weekend.

According to Football Insider, the Wales international was in France completing his medical over the weekend, with The Athletic claiming that Rennes have an option to sign Rodon next summer for €20million (£16.7m).

Despite playing 24 minutes at Ibrox last month, Rodon wasn’t part of the squad that travelled to Israel for Spurs’ final pre-season outing against Roma seven days later ahead of his proposed move to Ligue 1.

With Rodon’s Tottenham exit given the green light, Jones believes that transfer to Rennes is progressing well.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “He had a lot of offers from various places and I think a lot of people are surprised that he’s chosen this route, but Rennes are in the Europa League next season.

“He feels like he can grow as a person and make a big return to English football at some point. So, they’re moving forward with it, and it could be a good move for him.”

With less than 1,500 minutes under his belt across the last two seasons, playing regular football will surely be top of Rodon’s wish list.

Presumably, both club and player have been given promises about him getting exactly that in France, and while signing for Rennes might come as a surprise to many, it looks a smart move on paper.
