Tottenham: £33m Brazilian 'more exciting signing than Garner' at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur target Lucas Paqueta would be a ‘more exciting’ signing than James Garner, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Spurs have been linked to both midfielders in recent weeks after it emerged that they will be allowed to leave their respective clubs this summer if their valuations are met.

Antonio Conte has enjoyed a productive window at the Tottenham helm, bringing in Richarlison, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Clement Lenglet and Fraser Forster to boost his first-team squad.

However, a report from the Evening Standard last month claimed that the north London outfit ‘remain in the market for a creative attacker’.

And Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has provided an update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Lyon’s Paqueta, claiming that they have been ‘tracking’ him for ‘a while’.

“Spurs have been tracking Lyon’s Brazil international Lucas Paqueta for a while,” Gold wrote when asked if there is an update on the capital club’s interest in the South American star.

“The Brazilian’s price tag, with three years left on his contract, has gone all over the place this summer with talk of a £68m one to a lower £33m one in recent days, but Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas is not a man to let anyone go on the cheap.”

Another midfielder believed to be on Tottenham’s radar is Manchester United’s Garner, who has been deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Erik ten Hag.

But O’Rourke believes Paqueta is a player who would exhilarate the Spurs fans more than the England Under-21 international should he arrive at Hotspur Way.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “It’d be a more exciting signing, I think, for Spurs fans if they were to get Paqueta, who’s a more attacking midfielder as well than James Garner is.”
