Tottenham: Conte could 'spot deadline day signing' at Hotspur Way

Tottenham could make another signing on deadline day once some of their “misfits” start to leave, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Antonio Conte has welcomed six new players on board this summer, which will become seven once Destiny Udogie’s move from Udinese is confirmed, but Brown reckons that further incomings might hinge on whether Spurs are able to offload.

Despite completing some impressive business early on in the window, the north Londoners are struggling to get players off their books.

Their only major outgoings so far are Cameron Carter-Vickers, who made his loan move to Celtic permanent, Steven Bergwijn to Ajax for £26m and Joe Rodon, who joined Rennes on loan with an option to buy.

But the four players that were left out of the pre-season tour of South Korea, Sergio Reguilon, Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele remain on the club’s books, as do Japhet Tanganga and Bryan Gil.

Tottenham are also hoping to bring further reinforcements before the 1 September deadline, but Brown reckons they might have to wait until the final day of the window before acting.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It wouldn’t surprise me at all if we started to see some of Spurs’ misfits leaving and he suddenly spots someone he wants on deadline day and they bring another one in, but I don’t think there will be a huge amount of money changing at Spurs for the rest of the window.”

Conte has addressed several key areas in the squad, bringing in the likes of Ivan Perisic and Djed Spence to bolster his wing-back department, while Richarlison has arrived to provide competition for the front three.
