Tonbridge Angels manager Alan Dunne says summer signing and new captain Sam Corne could make his debut at Billericay this weekend

Summer signing Sam Corne could make his Tonbridge Angels debut this weekend.

Corne, who was named captain by manager Alan Dunne after joining from Maidstone, is back in training after recovering from a pre-season calf injury.

All being well, the midfielder will play some part when Angels visit Billericay in National League South on Saturday (3pm).

“Hopefully he’ll get some minutes at the weekend,” said Dunne.

“It’ll be good to have him back because he is a leader and he brings that bit of experience.

“I signed him to be one of our main players and he hasn’t kicked a ball for me yet (in a competitive game).”

Three-goal winger Jephte Tanga is back after missing Angels’ 2-0 home defeat by Truro last weekend through suspension, while Bunmi Babajide’s groin injury shouldn’t be anything serious.

Dunne, whose side host Walton & Hersham on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm), would welcome the extra options.

He named a young bench against Truro and feels it’s squad depth that ultimately separates the top sides from the rest.

“No matter who you play, the game’s par,” said Dunne.

“The difference is who you can bring off the bench.

“That’s massive in this league and that’s where we struggle if we have injuries.

“That’s the difference with your Dagenhams, your Truros, your Torquays - they’ve got stronger squads.

“There’s nothing tactical that’s going to scare you, or there’s nothing in the game, it’s just squad depth.

“Billericay have got a few quid but there’s not going to be much in the game. Don’t get me wrong, they’re a decent side and it will be a tough game, but it will come down to fine margins.”
