Hythe Town manager Andy Crush sees his side make it five wins out of five after thrashing higher-league Wick in the FA Vase

Hythe Town are showing different ways to win after maintaining their perfect start to the season under manager-of-the-month Andy Crush.

The Cannons added to their run of four successive Southern Counties East Division 1 victories by thumping higher-league Wick 5-2 in the FA Vase second qualifying round on Sunday.

Josh Byford, Monty Saunders, Jake Embery, George Grosvenor and Harry Codd scored in the tie, which was played on 3G at Folkestone’s Cheriton Road ground.

The Cannons showed what they could do on an artificial pitch after some tough assignments on grass.

“It’s good to win five out of five,” said Crush, who was named manager-of-the-month for August at the end of last week.

“People were talking about Wick being a Step 5 club but I said to the lads, ‘It’s a cup game, I don’t want us to look at it and say we’re Step 6, they’re Step 5, we’re the underdogs’.

“I’m not going to say 5-2 flattered them but we could have scored a lot more and we had people afterwards saying we suit playing on a 3G pitch.

“We were happy with the performance. It’s the first game we’ve played on 3G this season and we have to make sure we run over teams, that we’re fitter than everyone else because coming on to a 3G pitch levels the game.

“We can play football, we can go long, we can mix it up, but you have to be able to cover the ground in every transition.

“We went through our tactics before the game but I said I just need you to run all game long, it doesn’t matter what happens, as long as you’re in position and we’re set, we’ll be fine.

“There are different ways to win games. Greenways the week before (1-0 win) was more of a roll-up-your-sleeves, mix-it game where they wanted to stop us playing.
