Tom Heaton opens up on Brandon Williams spat in Manchester United vs Borussia Dortmund

Tom Heaton has downplayed the disagreement he had with Brandon Williams during Manchester United's defeat to Borussia Dortmund on their pre-season tour of America.

Heaton and Williams clashed after Donyell Malen had put the Bundesliga club 2-1 up in Las Vegas. While it was Victor Lindelof who lost possession in the build-up, the former Burnley man was unhappy with the United full-back's role in the goal.

The pair were involved in a heated discussion, but Heaton told MUTV after the draw with Athletic Bilbao that this sort of thing is perfectly normal in a team that is striving to get the best out of each other. He explained: "Yeah, I certainly try to [help the younger players], especially as a senior player.

"There was a bit made of me and Brandon having a little bit a few days ago but it is only natural. It happens week in, week out.

"You want that and you need that so long as it is all in balance, it's for the right reasons and there is a respect there and the relationship allows it, then it can only make everyone better."

The transfer window is in full swing and United have got their hands on three players well in advance of the September 1 deadline, with Rasmus Hojlund joining Mason Mount and Andre Onana at Old Trafford.
