Tom Barkhuizen completes Derby County transfer following PNE exit

Tom Barkhuizen has joined Derby County on a two year deal having left Preston North End in the summer.

The 28-year-old was not offered a new contract at Deepdale and departed on a free transfer. And, following the completion of Derby's takeover on Friday by Clowes Developments (UK) Ltd, Barkhuizen has agreed a switch to Pride Park.

His contract runs until 2024 and is the subject of EFL approval. His arrival in the Midlands will be the first of many as Derby, relegated to League One last term amid financial troubles, rebuild their squad.

Barkhuizen spent five and half years with North End, making more than 200 appearances. He joined the Lilywhites from Morecambe having come through the ranks at Blackpool.

He can play out wide or through the middle in attack and will hope to kickstart his career after just 14 appearances for PNE last season and none from January onwards. Barkhuizen scored 38 goals for North End during his time with the club.
