Rangers complete Ben Davies transfer as Liverpool man signs with Calvin Bassey to check out

Rangers have moved quickly to replace Calvin Bassey with the capture of Ben Davies.

The Liverpool stopper has arrived as Giovanni van Bronckhorst makes it six summer recruits to date. The Dutchman had a slow start to the window with John Souttar his only arrival on a pre-contract from Hearts but Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo, Malik Tillman and now Davies have all since arrived at the club.

The arrival will soften the blow of Bassey's mega money departure to Ajax with Joe Aribo also leaving for Southampton earlier this month. The Light Blues have a huge couple of weeks on the horizon with the big Premiership kick-off just around the corner and the beginning of their Champions League qualifying quest. Rangers kick off the league campaign away to Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena while their third qualifying round clash paired them with Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise as they bid to join rivals Celtic at Europe's top table for the new campaign.

Englishman Davies spent last season at Sheffield United after a move to the Reds as cover in 2021 didn't result in any senior minutes. Celtic were on to try and sign him 18 months ago but Liverpool nudged ahead of them and handed the defender a deal until 2025. He's set to depart three years early though for regular minutes.

The 26-year-old started his career at Preston North End in 2013 and spent eight years at the club before his switch to Jurgen Klopp's men.

In between his stay at Deepdale he had numerous loan spells away from the club.

York City, Tranmere Rovers, Southport, Newport County and Fleetwood Town all feature on his CV as well as a stint at the Blades last term.
