Todd Cantwell branded Rangers 'cheat' as top referee demands Aberdeen dive sees him hammered with ban

A pair of former top flight officials believe Todd Cantwell should be in the dock for his dive which has been branded as "cheating" Aberdeen.

Steve Conroy and Des Roache reckon the Rangers star was a lucky boy to go unpunished by Nick Walsh for a tumble which Sky Sports commentator James McFadden branded "ridiculous". And now the duo of former whistlers have let rip after Cantwell escaped on-field punishment in the pulsating 1-1 draw with the Dons at Pittodrie.

Steve Conroy has condemned the former Norwich City star in the strongest of terms and reckons he must be punished by the SFA's review panel this week. Conroy told stocklytics.com : He’s a cheat and he should face a retrospective red card. It’s ridiculous.”]

And an equally unimpressed Roache didn't hold back, adding: “It’s actually embarrassing. He should be hammered for this – and it’s not the first time he’s done it. Cheating is the worst thing in football – and that’s what this is. He should be hammered for this. I remember Gordon Smith – when he was SFA chief executive – asking for a straight red for simulation and I have always agreed. It’s the only way to stamp this out.”

And both officials agree the late penalty award for a shirt pull on Connor Goldson from Stefan Gartenmann was the correct call. Conroy said: “It’s a shirt pull and it’s a penalty. It was silly stuff from the Aberdeen defender.”
