Todd Cantwell charms Rangers boss Philippe Clement as Belgian reveals reason for hooking him again

Todd Cantwell achieved Rangers redemption in his manager's eyes as he was handed an Ibrox reception to banish the embarrassment of his midweek hooking.

The midfielder was withdrawn after just 35 minutes against Aris Limassol, with Philippe Clement frustrated at Cantwell failing to take on instructions, so replaced him with goalscorer Ross McCausland. But he kept his place and justified his inclusion by laying on Abdallah Sima's double against St Mirren.

And in an example of astute man-management, Clement took Cantwell off again – this time late on with two assists under his belt with five to go in order to take the acclaim of the Ibrox crowd, who hadn't exactly been on the edge of their seats throughout. They were, however, at least encouraged by Cantwell's contribution this time out. Clement said: "It was good and more what he expect of him. He had a good game on the ball, but also off the ball.

"He was in the right positions and was decisive with two assists. That's why I changed him in the last five minutes, to give him that welcome (from the fans) because on Thursday he was really disappointed in his own performance. He knew it wasn't at his standards."

Sima looked sharp after a lacklustre display at Pittodrie. The new dad's double came despite everything that comes with a new baby in the house. And Clement revealed a change in routine that's helped the Brighton loanee.
