Three ways Manchester United can line-up without Luke Shaw after injury confirmed

Manchester United have been rocked by the loss of left-back Luke Shaw to another injury problem.

The England international was forced off in the latter stages of the first half of Sunday's 2-1 win over Luton Town. United have since confirmed he has suffered a muscle injury and will be sidelined for an 'extended period'.

Shaw was passed fit in the build-up to the clash with the Hatters after being withdrawn at half-time against Aston Villa at Villa Park seven days earlier. The Reds have confirmed 'further assessment is still needed to determine the severity' of the injury but he is poised to be out for a 'few months'.

At this particular juncture, United are without a fit and available left-back within their senior ranks. It means manager Erik ten Hag is now going to have to think carefully about how he plans to operate without his first-choice left-back.

With that said, MEN Sport has had a look at three ways, covering three different situations, that United can line up without the former Southampton ace.

So soon after clearing the treatment room of several key players, it is starting to fill up again, certainly in the defensive department. Shaw has joined Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia on the list of defenders who are currently unavailable.

In normal circumstances, Malacia would have slotted in for Shaw and been a like-for-like replacement. However, the Dutchman has been absent since pre-season after undergoing knee surgery and he is still working his way back towards full fitness after almost a year without playing.
