Three children rushed to hospital after being pulled from blaze at derelict pub

Three children were rescued from a fire at a derelict pub in Hazel Grove on Tuesday night. Fire crews raced to the huge blaze, at the former The Woodman pub, on the A6 London Road, at around 8.30pm.

A huge emergency services response scrambled to the scene, closing off the main road between Mill St and Commercial Road. Pictures from the scene show numerous fire engines in attendance, as well as paramedics and police.

It has since been confirmed that three children were rescued from the building after the fire broke out on the first floor of the now derelict site. The nature of their injuries or how the fire started has not yet been confirmed.

Five fire engines raced to the scene, with the road remaining closed late into Tuesday evening. Fire crews from Cheshire were also called in to tackle the flames.

Pictures from the scene in the aftermath show a cordon in place around the scorched site. A screen used to board up a window is also visibly damaged after being pulled away in the rescue mission.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At around 8.30pm this evening (26 July), we were called to reports of a fire on the first floor of a two-storey derelict commercial building on London Road, Hazel Grove, Stockport.

“Five engines from Offerton, Whitehill, Marple, Cheadle and Stockport and an additional crew from Cheshire arrived quickly arrived on the scene. Three children were rescued from the building and have been conveyed to hospital by paramedics.
