Man moments from death pulled from the sea at Blackpool after being 'overwhelmed by waves'

A man moments from death has been pulled from the sea at Blackpool after being 'overwhelmed by the waves'. Coastguards rescued the man from the sea near the boating pool in the early hours of Monday, LancsLive reports.

Volunteers from RNLI responded to the reports and were assisted by local coastguard volunteers and members of the public to locate the casualty. The man was pulled into the lifeboat and given initial first aid in the boat before being returned to shore and handed into the care of the North West Ambulance Service.

This was the seventh call out received by the RNLI team this weekend, with most of them being in the early hours of the morning. The team were called out three times on July 30, three times on July 31, and once on August 1.

A statement on the RNLI Facebook page read: "Blackpool RNLI volunteers had a busy weekend having been called out 7 times, most of them during the early hours. Blackpool RNLI volunteers were called out at 1.10am on Monday morning (1st August 2022) when members of the public spotted a person in difficulty in the sea near the Boating Pool.

"One D class lifeboat launched and quickly reached the scene where members of the public and HM Coastguard volunteers used torches to highlight the position of the casualty in the water. The conditions on scene were very difficult and the casualty was being overwhelmed by waves when the lifeboat reached him.

"The volunteer crew of the lifeboat pulled the casualty aboard and provided first aid before returning to the lifeboat station and handing the casualty into the care of the North West Ambulance Service."
