Thomas Cashman sentencing live updates as Olivia Pratt-Korbel murderer to be jailed

Thomas Cashman is being sentenced today for murdering Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

Cashman, 34, was found guilty last week of murdering the nine-year-old girl in her own home. Today, he will be sentenced at Manchester Crown Court.

Olivia died on August 22 last year after a bullet passed through the front door of her home, on Kingsheath Avenue in Dovecot, hit her mum, Cheryl Korbel, in the hand and then struck her in the chest. The court heard the gunman was chasing 36-year-old Joseph Nee, who barged through the front door of the Korbel family home while fleeing for his life, the Echo reports.

CCTV recorded three loud bangs and showed how Nee, struck in the midriff, fell to the ground. However the jury heard he may have been saved by one of the guns, a 9mm handgun, "malfunctioning" as the killer seemed about to finish him off.

Olivia was rushed to nearby Alder Hey Children's Hospital by two police officers who arrived on scene a short time later, but was pronounced dead at 11.24pm that night.

As well as Olivia's murder, Cashman was found guilty of the attempted murder of Nee, as well as wounding Cheryl Korbel with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm. He was also found guilty of two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, namely a 9mm calibre self-loading pistol and a 0.3 calibre revolver.
