There's one Rangers theory I'm not buying and Clement's game face says he won't accept it either - Kenny Miller
Rangers sharpened the tools at Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup on Saturday. But on Wednesday night at Easter Road, it’s time for Philippe Clement’s players to really get to work.
In the next six days, they have two massive Premiership games before Celtic kick a ball in the league. Away trips to face Hibs and St Mirren won’t be easy for Clement’s team. But if they’re serious about mounting a title challenge, they MUST win both and reduce the gap at the top of the table to two points.
That’s how vital these games are. Afterwards, they’ll have four out of their next five fixtures at Ibrox. By picking up six points on the road before Celtic take on Ross County, Rangers would be putting down a marker. A statement of intent. There can be no excuses for these players now. That’s what’s expected of them in the next week. Come crunch games in a title race – you have to deliver.
Since Clement arrived at the club, pretty much everything so far has been positive. But if I’m being hyper-critical, he’s had three big away tests at Pittodrie, Tynecastle and Celtic Park. And Rangers only won one of those – against Hearts.
If not for a late penalty against Aberdeen, they’d have lost two of them. That has to improve and Easter Road is probably the next toughest place to go.
I’m saying they’re tough venues. But I don’t really buy into that theory. Ultimately, if you want to win leagues as a Rangers player, you have to win at these grounds.
That’s the nature of the beast at this club. If we’re looking at the next seven fixtures for Clement, it takes them into the start of March. So we’re now talking about the business end of the season.
Everyone has looked at the league table and Celtic’s lead still sitting at eight points after their Old Firm
