The TikTok lawyer and wannabe MP speaking for family in the brutal Manchester Airport video

He has hundreds of thousands of followers on social media, and he has been using this platform to promote his political ambitions.

But now Akhmed Yakoob, a 36-year-old solicitor from Birmingham who is under investigation by regulators over a racism row, is in the limelight for another reason. He is representing the family involved in an incident at Manchester Airport which has shocked the world.

Video footage showing an armed officer kick and stamp on the head of a man as he lay on the ground at Terminal 2 on Tuesday (July 23) has caused anger and outrage. Greater Manchester Police has said it was responding to an altercation at the airport at the time.

While attempting to arrest one suspect, the force said, three of its officers were subject to a violent assault which left one female officer suffering a broken nose. Four men were arrested for affray and assault on emergency service workers.

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham, who has seen footage of the events leading up to the shocking scenes which were widely shared on social media, has said the situation is not 'clear-cut'. However, the officer's actions has attracted widespread criticism of GMP.

Protests took place outside the offices of Mr Burnham, who is the police and crime commissioner overseeing the force, on Thursday evening (July 25). It followed protests outside a police station in Rochdale - where the family seen in the video lives - the night before.
