The seven dating terms you've probably never heard of as Rizz named Word of the Year

The Oxford Dictionary's word of the year has been chosen - and it's one that has left many people scratching their heads.

Rizz is the English dictionary's word of 2023 and it has been defined as a colloquial noun for a person's style, charm, or attractiveness and the ability to attract a 'romantic or sexual partner'.

The word is derived from 'charisma' and is mainly used amongst Gen Z. 'Rizz' can be applied in many circumstances but it is most common when referring to dating.

With the invention of dating apps and an ever-changing world, the parameters of dating have changed drastically to the days of blind dates and speed dating events. That has also meant that the lexicon of dating has changed with the youth coming up with brand new ways to describe very particular circumstances that feel exclusive to them and their generation.
