The Adam Idah to Celtic transfer hurdles Liam Scales wants cleared as he admits 'lots has to go right'

Liam Scales reckons "a lot of things have to go right" for Adam Idah to return to Celtic on a permanent deal, reports Paul O’Hehir from Portugal.

But the defender has implored club chiefs to make it happen as he wants to be reunited with his Ireland team-mate. Idah is a Hoops hero after firing the 90th-minute winner to down Rangers in the Scottish Cup final, to sign off his loan spell in style. But he admitted this week that his future remains unclear as he will be returning to Norwich City for pre-season training, with four years still left on his deal.

Scales said of Idah: “100% I want him to stay. Every Celtic fan and everyone at the club would love to have him back. He was outstanding but a lot of things have to go right for that to happen but hopefully it will.” And Scales hailed Idah for winning over the critics who doubted his ability when he first made the January switch to Parkhead. “That's the case with Celtic fans a lot of the time, it doesn't reflect on Adam at all. They have high standards and I don't think it bothered Adam,” he said.

“He’s just that sort of character that if it goes well and he starts like he did, he will be flying. It's a testament to his character that he was able to do that and go and have the half season he did. He played a massive part in us winning the league and then scoring the winner in the Cup final and I’m delighted for him.”

Scales added: “The cup final wasn't the most entertaining game but to win in the last minute was brilliant. The celebrations in the stadium were amazing.”
