Thabo Qalinge's legendary showboating for Orlando Pirates

Allan Saint-Maximin’s showboating during Newcastle United’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace was quite something.

The French winger, who’s become something of a cult hero in English football since arriving from Nice, decided to perform around 10 unnecessary step overs by the touchline.

Palace’s Cheikou Kouyate appeared to be almost hypnotised by Saint-Maximin’s lightning-quick feet as they moved around the ball multiple times.

Unsurprisngly, the footage of the Newcastle man’s step overs has been all over social media ever since.

After watching the video multiple times – which we advise you also do – another snippet of unnecessary showboating suddenly popped into our heads.

And to be perfectly honest, it makes Saint-Maximin versus Palace look rather tame.

Step forward, Thabo Qalinge.

It’s a name casual football fans will likely not recognise, but rest assured the South African midfielder is something of a legend in his own right.

Qalinge is a maverick and has a reputation for performing garish skill moves. The finest display of his showboating came in 2019 when he was with Orlando Pirates.

While his team were 3-0 up against Polokwane City FC with no hope of winning the title on the final day of the season, Qalinge decided the time was right to invent what can only be described as a 360-degree step over.
