Taste test reveals surprising winner as Morrisons, Sainsbury's, and Nestle cereals ranked

Three consumers, during an appearance on Channel 5's Supermarket Own Brands: The Big Test Taste, selected honey-flavoured circular cereals from Sainsbury's and Morrisons over those from the food giant Nestle.

The quirky catch of this taste test was that the identities of the brands for three provided bowls of cereal weren't revealed until after they were ranked from best to worst.

Once each bowl was thoroughly reviewed, the prices were unveiled, thus allowing the testers to make their purchase decision based on both price and taste.

The chosen consumers were notably quite fond of bowl A, with one tester giving his verdict: "Quite nice that, I can get the honey, not too overpowering on the honey. It's all about the crunch."

Another gave a similar impression, stating it "was really nice, not too overpowering, not too sugary", meanwhile, the third consumer praised they would "eat the whole bowl".

However, bowl B had a mixed reaction from the participants. One taster noted: "Honey comes through quite quickly, but disappears quicker.", reports th e Liverpool Echo.

Another enjoyed its instant honey flavour, saying it was present "from the second I put it in my mouth", while a third thought it tasted "more natural" and less manufactured.

While bowls A and B received warm reviews, bowl C was not as well-received. One taster remarked it felt "like an artificial rather than a real flavour", and another admitted: "I don't actually like these."

Ultimately, bowl A turned out to be Morrisons, bowl B Nestle, and bowl C Sainsbury's. Although bowl B was preferred for taste, the revelation that choosing Morrisons' cereal could save nearly two pounds swayed opinions.
