Sources: Union's Sullivan, 16, set for first USMNT call-up - ESPN

Philadelphia Union attacker Cavan Sullivan has earned a call-up from the United States for the upcoming September/October FIFA international window, sources told ESPN.

The official announcement will take place on Sept. 17, with Sullivan as part of the squad set to take on Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada over the course of the window.

The USMNT's first game is against Peru for Sept. 26, in Orlando, Florida.

If Sullivan, who turns 17 on Sept. 28, makes his USMNT debut in any of those matches, he will be the second-youngest player to play for the U.S., behind only Freddy Adu. Adu first appeared for the USMNT at 16 years, 243 days when he came on as a substitute in a 0-0 draw against Canada on Jan. 22, 2006.

The Philadelphia native has long been touted as a future star for the USMNT. He signed a homegrown deal with the Philadelphia Union on May 9, 2024, at the age of 14, making him the fifth-youngest player to sign a first-team MLS contract. The deal contains a clause that allows him to be transferred to Manchester City when he turns 18 in 2027.

But it is Sullivan's recent form that has caught the attention of U.S. manager Mauricio Pochettino. Since the resumption of play following MLS' break due to the World Cup, Sullivan has scored six goals — including goal contributions in each of his last seven league games — and added eight assists.

Sullivan score two goals on Sunday and added an assist as the Union trounced San Diego FC 5-0. He now has nine goals and 15 assists across all competitions this season.
