Susanna Reid sends public message to Kate Garraway during Good Morning Britain absence after 'serious' health update

Susanna Reid has sent a public message to her Good Morning Britain co-star Kate Garraway during her break from the show following news of Kate's husband falling seriously ill.

Reports suggested over the weekend that Derek Draper was taken dangerously ill last Monday after suffering a 'massive heart attack', according to the Mirror. It comes after Derek, a former Labour lobbyist, contracted coronavirus in March 2020 and was taken to the hospital where he was put in an induced coma.

Kate has previously told how Covid 'wreaked havoc' on Derek's body and he spent just over a year in hospital before returning home in April 2021, where he has needed round-the-clock care ever since. The presenter has recently shared how Derek was in hispital for planned treatment.

On Monday's Good Morning Britain (December 18), Kate's co-stars sent her an emotional message as they returned to air after it was revealed her husband was again fighting for his life. Charlotte Hawkins started by telling viewers: "We wanted to start with an update. You have seen that Derek, Kate's husband, is sadly in a very serious condition at the moment."

Richard continued: "Now we just wanted to let Derek and Kate and of course, the whole family know that we are all here thinking of them. We know many of you are as well, and that all of us send them our very best wishes at what is an extremely difficult time."
