Moment Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary stop This Morning over Derek Draper's death as they support Kate Garraway

This Morning took a break in their usual programme to share that their own ITV star Kate Garraway had shared the heartbreaking news her husband Derek Draper has died. Kate, who works on Good Morning Britain, broke the news on Friday (January 5) on Instagram.

Derek, a former Labour lobbyist, contracted coronavirus in March 2020 and was taken to hospital where he was put in an induced coma. He spent just over a year in hospital before returning home to Kate and their children - Darcy and Billy - in April 2021 and has needed round-the-clock care ever since due to the damaging effects the virus had on his body.

Kate recently shared how Derek was back in hospital for planned treatment as they continued to try and improve his health and wellbeing. However, Derek was taken dangerously ill in early December after suffering a cardiac arrest. Kate also 56, had cancelled all TV and radio work while she continued to support Derek around the clock at his bedside before his sad death.

The TV and radio star also wrote: “I have so much more to say, and of course I
