Kate Garraway supported by Good Morning Britain co-stars and celebs after Derek Draper death as she says she was 'lucky'

Kate Garraway has been inundated with supportive messages as she confirmed the death of her beloved husband Derek Draper. The Good Morning Britain presenter shared the news in a heartbreaking message on social media on Friday (January 5).

Derek, a former Labour lobbyist, contracted coronavirus in March 2020 and was taken to hospital where he was put in an induced coma. He spent just over a year in hospital before returning home to Kate and their children - Darcy and Billy - in April 2021 and has needed round-the-clock care ever since due to the damaging effects the virus had on his body.

Kate recently shared how Derek was back in hospital for planned treatment. However, Derek was taken dangerously ill on December 11 after suffering a 'massive heart attack'. The TV and radio star, also 56, had cancelled all TV and radio work while she continued to support Derek around the clock at his bedside before his sad death.

"Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed. I have so much more to say, and of course I will do so in due course, but for now I just want to thank
