Steven Naismith sets Hearts transfer trio with challenges as he talks signings, departures and Rosenborg

Tynecastle technical director Steven Naismith vowed to help new signing Kenneth Vargas bring out his best as he pledged the Costa Rican loanee will get bums off seats in Gorgie.

The 21-year-old joined the men in maroon for a year with an option to buy from Herediano. Vargas joins Aussie Calem Nieuwenhof who signed from Western Sydney Wanderers and Rangers youngster Alex Lowry who has also joined on loan.

And Naismith is excited by the arrival of all three. The arrival of Vargas on Monday night helped continue the feel good factor after the opening day Premiership win over St Johnstone as they build up to Thursday’s Europa Conference League tie against Rosenborg. Naismith told Hearts TV: “I had a few chats with him to understand where he feels he’s best and what his best attributes are and what he can improve on. He’s an exciting player, he’s someone who will definitely get people excited but he’s someone who will take time. We’ll hopefully get him the minutes that will help him adapt and get used to it.”

And on what the others will bring he said: “Calem (Nieuwenhof) coming in, he’s another young player who will take time and the reasons we bought him is because he was someone in the Australian league and consistently one of - if not the - best player around the league and he’s someone over the coming years who will definitely contribute to us, to improve us and make us better.

“And another one that came in was Alex Lowry who is probably the most comfortable to come in because he knows it and has been involved in Scottish football. His demands and aspects he needs to work out is different.

"There’s a lot of pressure being on him, being a young player coming through at Rangers and having the ball for 90 per cent of games
