Steve Bruce has made a discovery which could transform West Brom's fortunes

West Bromwich Albion have won a game of football.

There have been hours of play without a goal, away form which has been wretched since September and a in general a wait for victory which has been unacceptably long.

All Albion and Steve Bruce can do, though, is improve on the last one, against Swansea. They did so here, at Hull City, and by doing so they offered up their most complete performance in months.

Karlan Grant netted his 11th and 12th goals of the season either side of half time to secure the win for a much changed side which gave Bruce ample food for thought.

By doing so, they’ve not cured all of their ills of recent months, but with this personnel in this system, Bruce might just have stumbled across something which can work going forwards.

From the get go, this was much more like it from Albion. They could’ve been a couple of goals to the good before Grant made the breakthrough after a quarter of an hour, so they were deserving of their lead.

The intensity, absent for so long, returned across the pitch but the midfield was central to everything Albion did well. Hull, bar George Honeyman and Keane Lewis-Potter, were pretty poor across the pitch but the balance of play was more to do with the Baggies raising their performance levels - not a given after that particularly demoralising defeat to Swansea.

In turn, the newfound system which Bruce opted for immediately bore fruit. Taylor Gardner-Hickman injected life into the midfield and the returning Jake Livermore, deepest of the three, did a sterling job in breaking up the play.
