Steve Bruce confirms West Brom injury doubt for Bristol City clash as Daryl Dike update revealed

Steve Bruce says Daryl Dike is "rampaging" around the West Bromwich Albion training ground, but has revealed the trip to Bristol City this weekend might come too soon for the striker to make his first start since the end of January.

Dike joined West Brom for an undisclosed fee in the winter window and signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at the Hawthorns. He has only played 84 minutes of Championship football for the Baggies, but Bruce is hopeful he can fire his side up the division in the final months of the campaign.

West Brom currently sit six points outside of the play-off positions with just nine games of the season remaining. Following recent victories over Hull City and title favourites Fulham, Bruce's side are back within contention of muscling their way into the top six.

They will look to secure back-to-back league wins for the first time since December when they travel to Bristol on Saturday. And Bruce has confirmed the team news ahead of an important clash at Ashton Gate.

Asked about Dike's fitness, Bruce said: "He will probably be on the bench. He’s been rampaging around the training ground." The West Brom boss added: "We have got a couple of knocks. Sam (Johnstone) has been sick but we expect him to alright. Andy has got a bit of a knock."

Carroll is a doubt for West Brom this weekend after rediscovering some level of form in front of goal this season. Having joined Reading at the start of the season, he netted twice for the Royals in six starts, while he scored his first goal for the Baggies against Huddersfield, as he came off the bench to reduce a point in the dying embers of the match.
