St Johnstone consider David Martindale move as Livingston boss joins 2 bosses in board thinking before crunch meeting

St Johnstone are considering a shock move for Livingston boss David Martindale - after they sacked Steven MacLean.

Saints chief executive Stan Harris fired club legends MacLean and assistant Liam Craig yesterday, following the 4-0 weekend defeat to St Mirren. The club are without a win in the league and five points adrift at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table. Livingston chief Martindale has a number of admirers with the McDiarmid Park boardroom and is one of the names that is of interest.

The 49-year-old has worked wonders on a shoestring at Livi but he has also seen his budgets slashed and uncertainty over the recent change of ownership. Martindale also confirmed earlier this month that he has been working without a contract. The Saints board will convene on Monday morning to consider their options with former Hearts boss Robbie Neilson and ex-Inverness manager Billy Dodds also set to be discussed.

MacLean won the Scottish Cup as a player in 2014 and was assistant to Callum Davidson when they won the cup double in 2021, while Craig is the club’s all-time appearance holder. Harris said: “This was the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make.

“Steven and Liam are club legends and I regard both of them as friends. I watched and admired them over the years as players and the professionalism and dedication they have brought to their roles in coaching and management has also been exemplary.
