Barry Ferguson dismisses 'penalty to Rangers' narrative as 'moaning' Celtic cynics issued six-word takedown

Bemused Barry Ferguson has criticised the "moaning" around penalties being awarded to Rangers - with Celtic being awarded the same amount so far this season.

Philippe Clement's men were issued two spot-kicks against Livingston in their 2-0 Scottish Premiership victory - with Ross McCausland adjudged to have been fouled by keeper Shamal George as he raced through on goal by referee Steven McLean. While Rangers' captain James Tavernier would miss the first-half penalty, he would make no mistake at the second time of asking when VAR stepped in to punish Livi defender Mikey Devlin for a handball.

At Celtic Park, Hyeon-gyu Oh was chopped down in the box during the 6-0 rout of Aberdeen after VAR intervention saw Jack MacKenzie penalised - with wide man Luis Palma stepping up to score from the spot. It took the tally for penalties awarded to both Rangers and Celtic in the league this season to six.

Some fans have been critical of the number of penalties awarded to the Light Blues - with Celtic fans creating a mocking 'penalty to Rangers' catchphrase online. Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, host Paul Cooney put the figure to former ibrox skipper Ferguson.

Speaking on the Devlin handball, Cooney asked : "Penalty for Rangers, Barry? I see they are all talking about it. We have checked the stats and they are top of the table (for penalties) along with Celtic who have had six as well."

Ferguson responded: "Yeah. What is all the moaning about?" Cooney continued: "Nothing to see here?"

Ferguson: "Nothing springs to mind that there should have been a penalty or that there was an incident. But I can't think of anything that was a stonewaller."
