Spurs: Ryan Sessegnon outperforms Sergio Reguilon in key area

Tottenham wing-back Ryan Sessegnon is a more accomplished finisher than his teammate Sergio Reguilon, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The two left-sided players have been battling for a place in Antonio Conte’s starting XI since the Italian coach arrived at Spurs in November.

When looking at the statistics, it is clear that Reguilon has had the better campaign to date.

According to WhoScored, the Spanish full-back has been Tottenham’s sixth-best player in the league, earning an average match rating of 6.96. In his 19 top-flight appearances, he has scored one goal and provided three assists.

Meanwhile, Sessegnon is floundering behind with an average game rating of 6.45. He is yet to score in the league this term, and he only has one assist.

However, that did come in his latest appearance against Leeds, and he does appear to be growing in confidence having started each of Tottenham’s last three league fixtures.

Reguilon may have got on the scoresheet for Tottenham in 2021/22, but Bridge is still not convinced by him when it comes to finishing chances, and he believes that Sessegnon has more belief in himself in front of goal.

Bridge told GIVEMESPORT: “It was Southampton where Reguilon missed an absolute sitter. When Reguilon gets into that position, he can’t shoot.

“But, I think if you put Sessegnon in that position, he’d fancy it.”

Reguilon was recently ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19, and this has allowed Sessegnon to step in and show what he can do.
