Big boost: Antonio Conte drops teasing Spurs injury update, supporters will be buzzing - opinion

Antonio Conte has dropped an update on the injury sustained by Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ryan Sessegnon.

In recent comments cited by football.london, the Spurs manager revealed that, after sustaining a hamstring injury in the 5-0 victory over Everton back on March 8, the 21-year-old is awaiting the results of a further scan in order to be given the all-clear before he rejoins first-team training.

Regarding the England U21 international’s recovery, Conte said: “About Ryan, we’re waiting four weeks to have another scan and then if everything is OK he’ll restart training sessions with us.”

As such, with the defender having gone for his initial scan on March 8, working from the Italian’s stated timeline would suggest the full-back will be reassessed on April 5 – meaning he could be in contention for Spurs’ trip to Aston Villa on April 8.

Considering the fact that, prior to his latest setback, Sessegnon had managed to string together his most consecutive starts for Spurs since his £25m move from Fulham back in 2018, the news the left-back could be in line for a return to action as soon as the Aston Villa fixture is sure to have left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful buzzing.

Indeed, the £13.5m-rated dynamo appeared to have cemented his place as Conte’s number one choice on the left-hand side of the Tottenham defence, starting ahead of Sergio Reguilon in six of Spurs’ seven Premier League fixtures before his injury against Everton.

And, with Reguilon having somewhat struggled for form so far this season – with Conte himself suggesting that his expectation is that the Spain international “improves his level” – as well as being rather heavily linked with a move away from north London this summer – with both Real Madrid
