Southampton now 'prepared to sell' £15m star at St Mary's

Southampton may be ‘prepared to sell’ Che Adams and a ‘late transfer battle’ could take place for the St Mary’s striker, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The striker has been on Saints’ books since joining in a £15million deal from Championship side Birmingham City in the summer of 2019, but there is uncertainty over whether he will still be on the south coast beyond the September 1 deadline.

It is understood that Southampton are willing to sanction Adams’ departure as boss Ralph Hasenhuttl continues to freshen up his squad.

The Austrian has spent more than £50million on reinforcements and that could result in Adams being allowed to head out of the exit door amid interest from Premier League rivals.

Leeds United are reportedly lining up a move and hoping to secure the striker’s services for £10million, although Southampton are looking to secure a higher fee.

However, the Whites could be left frustrated in their pursuit as Adams is now at the top of Everton boss Frank Lampard’s shortlist of targets and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has previously told GIVEMESPORT that Goodison Park is his most likely destination.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest are providing additional interest, meaning the 26-year-old is in demand.

Jacobs believes there is a distinct possibility that Southampton are willing to offload Adams ahead of the transfer deadline.

The journalist would not be surprised if the former Sheffield United man finds himself at the centre of a tug-of-war with the closure of the summer window nearing.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “There is definitely a feeling that Southampton might be prepared to sell for the right kind of price, so that probably has a bit more substance in it.
