Omobamidele shines in Canaries' defeat of Millwall

Republic of Ireland defender Andrew Omobamidele earned the praise of Norwich City boss Dean Smith after his composed, commanding display helped the Canaries to a 2-0 win against Millwall on Friday night.

The 22-year-old American Josh Sargent settled a keenly-contested Championship clash with two well-taken goals after the break at Carrow Road as Norwich moved up to fifth in the table.

Omobamidele missed the second half of last season with a back injury but he's made a really good start to this campaign - providing Smith, and Ireland manager Stephen Kenny, with a welcome boost.

"They got the ball forward quite quickly at times and Andrew had a bit of a battle, certainly in the first half and I thought he came out the winner within that individual battle," Smith told the club website.

"I thought he was good in the second half as well. Against a team that are physical, I felt he handled that really well. Him and Grant (Hanley), who probably made more headers in the first five minutes than he has done for the rest of the season, together today against a strong team - Benik Afobe and Honeyman are strong runners and they dealt with that well.

"It's great that we're unbeaten at Carrow Road and our supporters can see how hard we’re working. That’s the thing that pleased me most - the work ethic."

After failing to hit top gear in the first half, Norwich were quick out of the blocks after the interval and went ahead in the 50th minute.

Sargent (above), clearly high on confidence after opening the scoring in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Huddersfield, repeated the trick against the Lions, slamming the ball low and hard past Bartosz Bialkowski after playing a neat one-two with Danel Sinani just inside the area.

The hosts doubled their advantage
