Man Utd 'notified' 164-goal star could be available for Old Trafford move

Manchester United ‘have just been notified’ that a deal which would take Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy to Old Trafford could be on the cards, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils have made a woeful start to the season, having been beaten by Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, but boss Erik ten Hag may freshen up his squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United are considering a move for Vardy ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.

The report suggests ten Hag is scouring the market for attacking options and although the 25-cap former England international has worked his way onto the Dutchman’s radar, Leicester are reluctant to sanction his departure.

Vardy has entered the final 12 months of his £160,000-per-week contract at the King Power Stadium, which could boost Manchester United’s chances of striking a deal as his current employers will not want to see him walk away as a free agent next summer.

But that may also play into the hands of other suitors as Chelsea are understood to be among a number of clubs monitoring the 35-year-old’s situation.

Manchester United are seeking a new striker as there is growing uncertainty over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has asked to leave Old Trafford if a satisfactory offer is lodged.

Jones understands that Manchester United have been informed that Vardy could be available ahead of the transfer deadline due to his precarious contract situation.

The journalist believes the Red Devils will be mulling over whether to test Leicester’s resolve after he has become a viable option.
