Wolves suffer 'absolutely devastating' blow over £15.5m star at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers star Sasa Kalajdzic ‘will be absolutely crushed’ after it was confirmed he is set for a lengthy spell on the Molineux sidelines, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Wolves have reacted to the setback by making a move for free agent Diego Costa and he is set to undergo a medical on Tuesday.

Kalajdzic made the £15.5million switch to Wolves from German outfit Stuttgart during the final stages of the summer transfer window.

The West Midlands side’s technical director Scott Sellars described the 25-year-old as a ‘talented young striker’ who has ‘many excellent attributes’ following his arrival.

Wolves head coach Bruno Lage did not hesitate in throwing Kalajdzic into his starting line-up when Southampton were the visitors to Molineux on Saturday.

However, the 15-cap Austria international’s debut did not go to plan as he was withdrawn at half-time of his new employers’ 1-0 victory.

It has been revealed that Kalajdzic was substituted after feeling pain in his knee and, following scans, an anterior cruciate ligament injury has been detected.

Jones believes Kalajdzic’s spell on the sidelines will come as a major blow to Wolves boss Lage as his side looks to kick-on.

The transfer insider feels the 6 ft 7 star had already shown glimpses of why the West Midlands club spent big to acquire his services.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s absolutely devastating for the player and the club.

“He looks a really good fit for the Premier League and he will be absolutely crushed by this news.”

Various injuries, along with two bouts of coronavirus, have resulted in Kalajdzic missing 82 matches over the course of his career.

The former Stuttgart man ruptured his cruciate ligament in 2019, which forced him onto the sidelines
