Sivert Nilsen explains why Aberdeen slump could be the making of Jimmy Thelin era

Sivert Nilsen has been through far lower than Aberdeen’s current Premiership slump and seen his team come back stronger and even feeling invincible.

The Norwegian was part of an SK Brann team who ended up being relegated, picked themselves up and were transformed into a major Norwegian force again. The Dons are currently 14 games without a win in the Premiership and that is something they are desperate to put right against Dundee.

Nilsen knows Aberdeen won’t have to go as low as SK Brann but he knows they will also come out the other side much stronger. He said: “When you come out of a tough period you have learned and know more than you did before. When it’s over you know what you can trust in your team and won’t go back into it again. I have been through it before, at my old team we went down but came out the other side.

“After that we felt invincible. We are not in the challenge to go down, but we’ve been in a tough time. I am sure that we will come out of the other side - and will be stronger.

“We all have the belief that we’re going to get better. In football you need to have a short memory, you can’t always be thinking about what has happened. It’s about the next match, of course you have to learn but you can’t stick too long. That’s important for us.”

Thelin accused some of his players of hiding at Hibs but they put in a much-improved display in last week’s Scottish Cup win over Dunfermline. Nilsen worked with the Swede at Elfsborg before and knows he gives everything and demands the same in return.

He added: “It’s usual for the manager to be honest, if he sees something then he will say it. Jimmy is a very demanding manager, he uses a lot of himself.
