Should parents charge their children rent?

The cost of living crisis has hit many people across all generations as Brits look for different ways to keep costs down.

One potential way for younger adults to save on costs is by living with their parents. That's because rent prices are soaring through the roof and properties are becoming increasingly difficult to find, not to mention the added pressure of rocketing utility bills and food.

Living with parents is something that can create a few tricky dynamics with one issue being contributions to household costs, so we want to know whether you think parents should charge their kids rent for living with them.

A survey last year from the Office for National Statistics found that 42 percent of 15 to 34 year olds still live with their parents, a figure which has steadily been on the increase over the past 20 years.

The debate over whether or not children should chip in with costs was kicked off earlier this week, as hundreds of Manchester Evening News readers responded after a struggling mum was stunned after her son's 'livid' response when she asked him to pay rent.

Some readers came out backing the son, who has a job but still attends college, with one person saying: "Totally unreasonable the lad is still in full-time education."

Another person agreed, adding: "Sorry but her son is trying to pave his way for his future."
