Should Brendan Rodgers have freshened Celtic up and was Graeme Souness right to make Frank Lampard revelation? Monday Jury
KEITH JACKSON: Of course, with the benefit of hindsight, he may have freshened his starting XI up. But the Parkhead boss went to the capital hoping for a repeat performance from a side which is still getting into its stride. He had every right to expect better than he got.
ANDY NEWPORT: Hindsight can be a wonderful thing but clearly Rodgers thought the team who pushed one of Europe’s top outfits close had it in them to go to the well again against a Hibs team swatted aside at Ibrox last weekend. It was a mistake but given his team still have a healthy advantage at the top of table, one they could afford to make.
CRAIG SWAN: Saying no is easy with hindsight, but there was clearly a freshness and energy lacking.
SCOTT BURNS: I’m not sure how many changes he could have made without weakening the starting XI. Too many of his squad and fringe players have not hit the required standard and aren’t at the same level as Celtic’s tried and trusted.
KEITH: If Souness feels as if his advice was ignored by a Board which knows better then he must be wondering why he was invited to take part in the process in the first place. The whole thing is very odd.
ANDY: It won’t bother Clement one bit. The big Belgian doesn’t seem the type to be affected by this sort of thing. But it does raise questions over Souness’ new role as an advisor to the board if his first big recommendation has already been cast aside.
CRAIG: If that’s what he thought, then yes. We want people to be honest.
SCOTT: I’m not sure Philippe Clement will be losing too much sleep over it. The alarming thing for me is that Frank Lampard was even considered for the Rangers job because his managerial hasn’t exactly been stellar.
