Sheffield Wednesday prove they still have transfer pulling power in League One promotion quest

The transfer rumour mill is already in full swing. Another manic summer is on the cards at Sheffield Wednesday as Darren Moore seeks to reshape his side following their League One promotion near miss.

Plymouth Argyle star Panutche Camara is one of the players said to be on the Owls' radar. A new midfielder is on Moore's summer shopping list. It is an area of the pitch where Wednesday have been a man down since Lewis Wing departed in the January transfer window. Where Alex Hunt, who spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at crisis club Oldham Athletic, fits into Moore's plans remains to be seen.

There is also uncertainty over Massimo Luongo's long-term future. His present Owls deal expires at the end of the month.

Signing somebody of Camara's ilk would be a real statement of intent. He was a standout performer for the Pilgrims as they agonisingly missed out on a top-six finish.

Plymouth have placed Guinea-Bissau international Camara on the transfer list after the energetic, box-to-box midfielder turned down a contract extension. The Pilgrims plan to cash in on the 25-year-old before his contract runs out in the summer of 2023.

Although Wednesday will again be plying their trade in the third tier of English football come the start of next season, Moore's side still have strong pulling power in the transfer market. It is a big club steeped in history and tradition with a huge fan-base. There will be 20,000 plus crowds week in, week out at Hillsborough cheering the team on.
