Sheffield Wednesday's transfer stance on Josh Windass revealed as Argentinian interest hots up

Josh Windass has emerged as a shock transfer target for Atlético Talleres. Andrés Fassi, the President of the Argentine Primera División, has confirmed their interest in the Sheffield Wednesday forward this week.

It is believed the Owls have received initial contact from Talleres to sound out Windass' availability but no formal bid has been lodged just yet. Windass' representatives are reportedly in South America to discuss a possible transfer.

Windass, the son of former Hull City, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Bradford City forward Dean, has previously worked with Talleres boss Pedro Caixinha at Glasgow Rangers. It is claimed Talleres want to get a deal finalised for Windass as quick as possible to enable him to take part in this summer’s Copa Libertadores.

Speaking on Argentine football radio show ¿Cómo te va?, Fassi said: “We are in talks with an English player, who Pedro already had in Europe as a player, he wants to come and live the experience of Argentine football. It is part of the negotiations that we will do in Buenos Aires. The footballer is Josh Windass.”

Windass, who was the subject of transfer interest from Millwall last summer, has one year remaining on his Wednesday contract. Yorkshire Live understands the Owls view Windass as an integral member of their first team squad and ideally would like to retain his services heading into next season.
