Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham delivers verdict on Huddersfield Town controversy

Wes Foderingham believes referee James Linington made the 'right call' when disallowing a first half goal for Huddersfield in today's Yorkshire derby at the John Smith's Stadium.

The game ended in a goalless draw but it could have been different had Jon Russell's header from a corner on 39 minutes been allowed to stand.

The hosts were furious with the decision, believing the goal should have stood.

Blades goalkeeper Foderingham was impeded by Danny Ward as Russell's header made its way over the line, but replays showed that Ward, who was also in an offside position, was only there because he had been pulled to the ground by George Baldock.

Foderingham, who kept his ninth clean sheet of the season, said: "I know the boy was on the floor behind me and as he's gone to head it I've taken a step to make the save and just fell over him.

"Not quite sure what the referee's given to be honest, whether a foul or offside, I'm not sure but I think he's made the right call because if it wasn't a foul it was offside."

Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom shared his view, believing he 'had to give one or the other', as Sheffield United extended their unbeaten run to six matches.

Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan said his players felt there had been no foul committed and that they were unhappy to see it not given.

Town's unbeaten run now stretches to 14 games in all competition.
