Sheffield United forgotten man released by Paul Heckingbottom could still be on club's radar
Luton Town manager Nathan Jones has refused to rule out making a move for Luke Freeman. The midfielder will be a free agent this summer when his contract officially expires on June 30.
He failed to hit it off at Sheffield United despite becoming a club record transfer at the time from QPR in the summer of 2019. He featured in the Premier League opener at Bournemouth but it would be one of just 11 league appearances that season as he struggled to force his way into Chris Wilder's team.
He was loaned out to Nottingham Forest the following campaign and although being handed a chance to impress at the start of last season under Slavisa Jokanovic, he started just one Championship match under the Serb.
Paul Heckingbottom sanctioned a loan move to Millwall in January to get his career back on track but he suffered a hamstring injury after making his debut and didn't feature again.
The 30-year-old now faces an uncertain future but Championship clubs have been rumoured to be looking at him as an option for next season if he can prove his fitness. One team that has been continuously linked is Luton.
Jones has tried to sign him before and is known to be a fan. He was asked specifically about Freeman now that he is a free agent and if he plans to make him an offer.
Although refusing to be drawn on the United man, he did not rule it out.
He told Luton today. "We’d like to bring in a left-footed midfielder player, we really would, and there’s a number of names, a number of people that we’ve spoken to.
"There’s some good players out of contract and we’re an attractive proposition football-wise."
