Transfer stance set out for Nottingham Forest target Morgan Gibbs-White

Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be hopeful of hanging on to Nottingham Forest target Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.

Forward Taiwo Awoniyi became the Reds’ first signing of the transfer window when he penned a five-year deal from Union Berlin at the weekend. But boss Steve Cooper will look to bolster his attacking resources further ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

Forest are keen on attacking midfielder Gibbs-White, who impressed on loan at Sheffield United last term. But they could face a fight to secure his signature.

Amid suggestions of a £20million price tag, the 22-year-old has two years left to run on his current contract with Wolves. He is said to have been offered fresh terms last month, but has not yet put pen to paper.

So far, no bids for the England Under-21 international have been received, according to the Express & Star. And they report the West Midlands club are “hopeful” of keeping him for the new campaign, regardless of whether an improved deal is agreed.

It is said Wolves “expect” the player to be part of their squad for the 2022/23 season. Moreover, “a substantial fee” would be needed to test their resolve.

Gibbs-White bagged 12 goals and weighed in with 10 assists from 37 appearances during his time at Bramall Lane. He knows Cooper well, with the pair having worked together at Swansea City and with England Under-17s.
