Tommy Doyle's Man City story, De Bruyne as a team-mate and how Sheffield United can benefit

Tommy Doyle describes his experience of training and playing alongside some of the biggest names in world football at Manchester City as 'brilliant' and says a decision by the coaching staff was the 'best thing that ever happened to me'.

The 20-year-old has joined Sheffield United on a season-long loan and is looking to help his new team-mates secure a route back to the Premier League. He has already had a taste of top flight football, dipping his toe in as an 18-year-old in a 5-0 victory over Newcastle in 2020.

He's also experienced Champions League football and featured five times in the FA Cup and EFL Cup for Pep Guardiola's side. His full debut coming in 2019 in a 3-1 win over Southampton.

He has been in and around the first team set-up at the Etihad for the past three years and says 'every day was a learning day' when sharing a dressing room with a host of star-studded names.

Asked what it was like to train with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and what that experience did for him, Doyle told Yorkshire Live: "Brilliant. They all help you. I was fortunate enough to have two and half, maybe three years with them and every day is a learning day.

"It's brilliant, the standard is so high. It gives you an experience in itself that not many people get playing with them, whether it's the Premier League, the Champions League, the League Cup, whatever it is. Playing with those players is a massive experience but they see you as one of them, too.

"They know when you are there you are good enough so you go in, you have to perform and do as well as you can and help them in a way with something new, something fresh."
