Sevilla defender Marcos Acuna sends message to Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez after injury

Sevilla and Argentina international Marcos Acuna has sent his best wishes to Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez after he picked up a seemingly serious injury on Thursday night.

Martinez went down while on the ball for United in considerable pain in the 87th minute. With the Reds having made all five of their substitutions, Erik ten Hag's team had to go down to 10 men for the remainder of the fixture.

Acuna, alongside his teammate Gonzalo Montiel, carried Martinez off the pitch to allow play to continue and for the 25-year-old to receive further treatment on the sidelines. The centre-back was then taken down the tunnel on a stretcher as concern for his fitness grew among United fans.

After the match, Acuna took to Instagram to wish his Argentina colleague well. "All the best friend and don't be [out for] too much," the left-back posted along with a picture of him helping Martinez to the side of the pitch.

Once play resumed, Sevilla scored an equaliser in stoppage time after an unfortunate Harry Maguire own goal to ensure the Europa League quarter-final is level heading into the second leg next week. Speaking to the media post-match, Ten Hag confirmed that Martinez had not suffered an Achilles injury like some had feared inside Old Trafford.

However, the Dutchman was unable to provide any further update on the player's fitness. "We have very good replacements with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, so we have players who can replace them [Martinez and Varane who was substituted at half time]," he added.
