Nemanja Matic gives verdict on Erik ten Hag as former Manchester United star makes vow

Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has backed his old club to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the ex-United man discussed his first season under Jose Mourinho at Roma - as well as the plights of his former clubs Chelsea and United. Matic addressed Harry Maguire's situation and also touched on the form of Marcus Rashford this season. And on United's first campaign under Erik ten Hag, the Serbian midfielder said he has enjoyed what he's seen. He praised the style of football employed by the Dutchman and feels the improvement has been clear to see.

"I like the way he wants to play," he said. "I like the way United are playing. They have had some ups and downs and that is normal with a new manager. But I'm happy with how they have progressed and I think next season they will fight for the title for sure."

On his playing days in the Premier League, Matic added: "I'm very proud to have represented two of the biggest clubs in England. I lived the dream playing in the Premier League for Chelsea and Manchester United , it was a great achievement. I will always remember those clubs in a positive way and they have a special place in my heart."
