Scott McTominay 'upset' by Scotland fan rhetoric as Man United star has sights set on making HISTORY

Scott McTominay says Steve Clarke’s troops have a big chance to become one of the most successful Scottish teams in history.

The Manchester United star has urged the current to have fire and embrace the challenge. McTominay is adamant the current Scots side should seize the moment as they prepare for an assault on Euro 2024. Clarke’s team are aiming to become the first Scots outfit to get to the knockout stages of a major tournament. McTominay knows there’s huge opportunity for this group as he said: “There’s a big chance. Big chance. There is the potential to be one of the most successful Scottish teams in history and that should be at the front of every player’s mind.”

McTominay was told that some fans almost expected early exits from tournaments in the past and replied: “That upsets me, hearing that. I don’t like hearing that. You can’t go there and play average and come home like we did in 2021. There’s no way we want that.

“You have to have more ambition than that. You have to go there with a little bit of fire in your stomach and go: Listen, do you know what, forget about the rest of it and forget about what anyone says, we are concentrating on us and that is final.

“We want to go there and not get too carried away or say outlandish things, but we want to go there and do well and represent as an individual the best of your capabilities and as a team.”
