Scotland fans hit with staggering EasyJet flight price hike for Euro 2024 opener against Germany

Scotland fans hoping to book last-minute direct flights to the Euro 2024 opener with Germany face an eye-watering bill of £1500 for EasyJet flights.

The Tartan Army is expected to descend en-masse in Munich on June 14 as their side opens the tournament against the hosts. As many as 100,000 could be in Germany for the tournament with only 10,000 guaranteed tickets via the Scotland Supporters Club.

But ticketless Scotland fans were given a last chance to secure their seats for the Germany game – with face value prices of up to 900 Euros – as UEFA’s official resale portal opened on Wednesday. For those who were lucky to secure seats in the Munich Football Arena, the race is now on to secure travel and accommodation. But direct options from Scotland to Germany are now severely limited and airline providers with available flights coming at a hefty price tag.

There are NO direct flights from Glasgow and the last remaining seats on Easyjet flights from Edinburgh to Munich - departing on June 12 and returning on June 15 – were coming on sale at £1,479 return at 10am on Wednesday. Those prices don’t include any additional costs, including fees for standard sized carry on luggage, bumping the cost well above £1,500.

Fans exploring other routes into Germany are also being stung by inflated prices. Budget airline Eurowings had flights on offer to cover the game – between June 13th and June 15th – to Cologne for £398 and Dussedorf for £525. Cologne is a four-and-a-half hour train ride to Munich, with Dusseldorf over five hours.

Elsewhere, departures from the UK to Munich on the same dates were coming in at £512 from London Heathrow, £576 from Birmingham and £698 from Manchester at the time of checking.
