Motherwell No:2: Rangers success gives us "unbelievable confidence" for Aberdeen clash and rest of season

Motherwell assistant boss Stephen Frail feels their win over Rangers will give them “unbelievable confidence” for Saturday’s clash with Aberdeen and the rest of the season.

The Steelmen are pushing for a top-six slot in the Premiership after their 2-1 win at Ibrox on March 2 ended a 27-year wait for a league triumph in Govan.

They sit two points off of sixth-place Hibernian in the battle for the last available spot in the top half heading into their date with the Dons, who have just parted company with boss Neil Warnock.

And they will be desperate to build on their recent triumph as they also have games with seventh-place Dundee and Hibs in the next few weeks that will determine their post-split fate.

Frail said: “The aim is to keep climbing. We are looking above us and at what is in front of us with some incredibly difficult games.

“But the game with Rangers will give the players unbelievable confidence, showing that they can go toe-to-toe with a team who have been flying since their new manager came in, playing some really good football and getting positive results.

“Not only have we beaten them, but we have beaten them on their own ground where they have been really buoyant recently having gone top of the league.

“We have been close to a result like that before. Even the first game at Ibrox was very tight and the two Celtic games at home were very tight.

“To go to Rangers and play the way we did, scoring early but also showing that character to come back after they had equalised was great.

“We stayed resolute when people were thinking it was either going to go two ways – hang on for a draw or lose.

“But we didn’t. We dug in and scored a fantastic second goal that was well deserved.
