Scene of devastation as car and motorbike crushed in horror collision as rider, 21, suffers 'life-changing injuries'

A car and a motorbike were left crushed after a major collision in Radcliffe on Thursday (October 24). The bike rider, a 21-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with 'potentially life-changing injuries' in the crash at around 4pm.

A huge emergency response, including multiple ambulances, incident response units and police vehicles, raced to the scene on Ainsworth Road following the crash at around 4pm.

Dramatic pictures from the scene showed a Toyota Yaris with an entirely crushed bonnet, with a motorbike left 'unrecognisable' beside it on the ground. The driver of the car, a 72-year-old woman, was treated at the scene by paramedics.

An air ambulance was also scrambled to the scene of the horrific collision on Thursday afternoon, as police taped off Ainsworth Road and set up multiple cordons on adjoining side roads as they responded to the incident.

Pictures from the scene showed the damaged vehicles at the junction with Lowe Street, outside the Victoria Hotel. The road remained closed late into the evening amid enquiries, with the incident being led by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU).

After the crash, residents shared concerns about dangerous drivers on Ainsworth Road. One resident of nearby Alma Street said she was 'frightened' to use her car.

"I’m frightened to go out in my car. It’s a miracle nobody has died," she said. "Radcliffe is becoming a race track at the minute. They're always speeding up and down here.

"If somebody had been walking on that pavement or crossing the road they’d have been wiped clean out."

Another local resident added: "I drove past just after it happened, his bike was almost unrecognisable.
